WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Veterans from Greater Lafayette are getting the opportunity to explore our nation's capital.
It was a busy morning at the Purdue Airport for the 18th Honor Flight. Veterans are spending the day in Washington D.C. for the last time this season.
They will visit memorials honoring their sacrifices with their guardians. This includes the World War II Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and the Korean War Memorial.
The group left around 8 o'clock Monday morning. The Greater Lafayette community is encouraged to come and welcome these veterans home.
Trip Coordinator Dana Vann said "It's one of the most patriotic experiences you'll have and it's a good way to thank these veterans that were never thanked when they came home. It's really important to welcome them home and tell them 'thank you.'"
The Veterans return back to Purdue Airport around 8 o'clock Monday evening.
This is the 600th Honor Flight for Americans Airlines.
