WEST LAFAYETTE, IN (WLFI) – A Lafayette business owner moved across the river to expand his brand.
Robert Turner, better known as Bobby T, is the new owner of the 308 On State bar located in West Lafayette.
Turner's background of twenty-five years in the food and service industry has molded him into the bar owner he is today.
When Turner was 12 years old he started his first job as a dishwasher at Grandma’s Hill. That experience ignited his love for work.
He grew up in Monticello, but moved to the Greater Lafayette area as a young adult.
Four years ago he opened Bobby T’s pub and shortly after that took over ownership of Pete’s Diner.
I asked Taylor why he bought 308 On State bar and he said, “You know most people who get things done have this mindset. If you're swimming halfway across the lake, why would you turn around and go back?
308 On State bar is back open for business and community members voiced their opinions.
“I would like to see more of like a lounge kind of a sit down more relaxed environment versus just trying to party, ”said Alyssa Torres.
Purdue University student Matt Caveinale said, “I mean there are not that great of views in West Lafayette, but I always thought it would be really nice to have a rooftop area and a roof top bar just to hang outside in general. There's really no place where you can have a good time outdoors.
Turner said he has a solution to make his business successful.
“I have a one year, three year, and five year plan and now we are executing that,” Turner said. “I would hate to think twenty years down the road that I'm doing something else wishing I would have tried this and not try it.”
Turner is also considering new ways to draw people into the bar, like live music and comedy shows. He's also still considering a name change. If you have ideas on either, he says you can contact him via social media.
