WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The Purdue Airport will be the home for some historic planes for the next couple of days.
The 2019 Wings of Freedom Tour has come to the Greater Lafayette Area. The tour shows off five WWII aircrafts. The P-40 Warhawk and the B-17 Flying Fortress will be among the planes displayed. The tour also features the world’s only flying B-24 Liberator.
Demi Bamber is the flight coordinator for the tour and she said it gives the community a chance to take a look back at a crucial point in American history.
“It keeps history alive,” Bamber said. “It keeps people talking about it. It keeps younger generations a little bit more fascinated and wanting to open up a book about history, especially after they see them in person.”
Bamber also shared she remains on the tour crew to honor the veterans who come out to enjoy the displays.
“It's an honor to still be able to meet veterans and be able to still honor them and show them that we are doing everything we can to keep these planes flying and keeping history alive.” Said Bamber.
The tour will stay at the Purdue Airport until noon on Thursday.
