WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Purdue is "assessing the situation" regarding the naming of its John H. Schnatter Center for Economic Research. This comes after Schnatter, the founder of Papa Johns Pizza, reportedly used a racial slur during a media training exercise phone call earlier this year.

Schnatter was criticized for blaming the NFL's handling of national anthem protests for his company's poor sales late last year.

During the call, Schnatter used the N-word while trying to downplay his NFL snafu. He was reportedly complaining because Colonel Sanders used the word and never faced public backlash. He confirmed the incident and apologized in a statement to Forbes.

As we previously reported, Schnatter's Family Foundation donated $8 million for naming rights of Purdue's economic research center in April. The John H. Schnatter Center for Economic Research is located within the Krannert School of Management.

A representative with the Krannert School of Management released the following statement:

"We operate the economic center with a commitment to the Purdue values of tolerance and respect for those of all races and backgrounds. We will continue to assess the situation while reinforcing our values to all those affiliated with the center."

Schnatter also resigned from the University of Louisville Board of Trustees.
