BOONE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) -- A Zionsville man is dead after a Boone County crash early Thursday morning.

The crash happened just after 1 a.m. on County Road 300 South, west of U.S. 421.

The Boone County Sheriff's Office is still investigating the cause of the incident. Alcohol is believed to be a factor.

James Dupler and Jack Kaplan, both 21 and of Zionsville, were found outside the vehicle when first responders arrived.

It's unclear who was driving.

Kaplan refused medical treatment at the scene, but was later admitted to IU North Hospital in Carmel.

Dupler was taken to St. Vincent's in Indianapolis, where he was pronounced dead.

“Too often we are forced to respond to these types of crashes that could have been avoided. Today a young man’s life was taken because of drinking and driving," said Major Brian Stevenson.

He said if you see someone get into the driver’s seat when they have been drinking, do the right thing and take the keys.

"It could be a life or death decision,” Stevenson said.
