WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - - Purdue freshman soccer player Maddy Williams is named the Big 10 Offensive Player of the Week, and Freshman of the Week.
The honor comes after providing Purdue's only offense the last two games, both 1-0 wins. She's the first Boilermaker to score game-winning goals in consecutive Big Ten games since 2001.
She's also Purdue’s first Player of the Week honoree since former goalkeeper Carianne Betts was recognized for consecutive shutouts in September 2010.
Williams scored her eighth and ninth goals of the season as the Boilers posted 1-0 wins against Illinois and Northwestern. She’s now only one goal shy of Jessica Okoroafo’s Purdue freshman record from 2005. The Perrysburg, Ohio, native is third in the Big Ten in goals entering the week as the top freshman scorer in the conference.
