INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The Indianapolis Colts introduced their sledgehammer running back Trent Richardson early Thursday afternoon before a locker room full of media.
"I'm excited to be a Colt," said the 2012 number three overall NFL Draft pick.
Head coach Chuck Pagano said despite having just a few days of practice before Sunday's game in San Francisco, Richardson will get some action.
"We didn't bring him here to be the water boy,” Pagano said. “You can never have enough running backs, and Trent is like a rolling ball of butcher knives."
Richardson says he will play with a chip on his shoulder, still recovering from the surprise trade that sends the Colts’ top draft pick of 2014 to Cleveland. As for his message to Colts fans on both sides of the fence about the trade?
"I'm happy to be here," said Richardson. "I can't wait to get started Sunday. I can't wait to get out today and be with my team and get the timing down right. It's an honor to be here, because there's a lot of history behind the Colts. I'm here to fulfill all the dreams and all the needs I want as a player and what the fans want in me as a player."
Richardson will wear jersey number 34.
