San Diego Padres Pitcher and McCutcheon graduate Clayton Richard spent today planting trees at the Beck Lane Lyn Treece Boys and Girls Club location. The Boys and Girls Club expanded last year and now they are cleaning up the exterior.
Richard's father Barry is the executive director of the Lyn Treece Boys and Girls Club. Richard says it's always fun to be back in Lafayette.
"It's a great cause," Richard said. "It's always fun to help dad out. For the kids to have a place to come that's well kept, clean and then to look good on top of that, it means a lot."
Richard suffered a season-ending shoulder injury for the second time in the last three years. He underwent surgery to repair the AC joint in his left shoulder, spending the second half of the season on the Padres' disabled list. So far, he says his rehab is going as planned.
"The rehab is coming along really well," Richard said. "It's taking some time, but with shoulders they tend to do that. I'm just trying to take it easy, be patient, and keep going in the right direction."
