WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Fresh off a weekend sweep of the diving events at the home-opening Indiana Intercollegiates, Michelle Cabassol of Purdue women’s swimming and diving has been recognized as the Big Ten Diver of the Week.
Cabassol has won three of the four diving events in which she has competed so far this season. Her winning scores Saturday from the 1-meter (295.75) and 3-meter (303.65) springboards were personal season highs and NCAA Zone qualifying marks.
Even though she was a 3-meter All-American last season after placing fourth at the NCAA Championships, this marks the first time Cabassol has been recognized as the Big Ten Diver of the Week. She joins Jamie Bissett from the men’s team as Purdue divers to be honored this year. Maddie Miskulin (Nov. 20, 2012) was the last women’s diver to be recognized by the conference office.
Carly Mercer (100 breast and 200 IM), Layne Rogers (1- and 3-meter diving) and Danny Tucker (50 and 100 free) were also two-time event winners for the Boilermakers Saturday.
The Purdue men and women return to action Friday when they host Notre Dame at 5 p.m. for a co-ed dual meet at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center.
A Purdue football player was arrested for alcohol-related offenses over the weekend.
As temperatures drop, the use of homeless shelters go up.
