WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Purdue's volleyball team held the Gold and Black scrimmage at Belin Court on Saturday.
The Boilers used male practice players, who competed for the Gold team. Purdue freshman Ashley Evans also competed for the Gold squad, plus a rotating group of backcourt players and hitters.
Head Coach Dave Shondell also tested starting lineups on the Black squad. The match went five sets, as the Black team claimed the 15-13 win in the fifth set.
"Even though this group played a lot together during the spring and summer as a unit, you have to find ways to feed off each other," said Shondell. "I've talked to some of our outside hitters ahead of time, and one thing I'm looking for when I decide positions is who enhances our team. Who makes our team better when they're on the floor. There are a lot things that outside hitters have to do, but it's also the intangibles in making our team better when they're on the floor. So I'm looking to see who brings chemistry to the floor. As well as, who is playing tough everyday, consistently playing tough everyday."
The Boilermakers will play one more scrimmage before the regular season when they take on an all-star alumni squad on August 24 at 6 pm.
