LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - McCutcheon high school announced the hiring of Sara Sutter as the next Mavericks volleyball coach on Thursday after the move was approved by the TSC School Board on Wednesday night.
Sara takes over for Travis Fuller who spent one season as the McCutcheon volleyball coach. Fuller resigned in March to take a coaching position on Dave Shondell's staff at Purdue.
"I've been looking for this opportunity for a while now and I knew it was something that I wanted to do eventually and I'm excited that it's McCutcheon. It's one of the top schools and I'm excited to coach some of the girls that I've gotten the opportunity to coach here at Lava," said McCutcheon volleyball head coach Sara Sutter.
Sutter has extensive experience coaching club volleyball at LAVA as well as serving as the junior varsity head coach for three seasons at West Lafayette Jr.-Sr. High School.
"Sara is very dedicated to the sport of volleyball and will be missed here at West Lafayette. However, I think McCutcheon is very lucky to have such a talented volleyball coach take over their up and coming volleyball program," said West Lafayette head coach Chad Marshall.
Sutter met with her new team for the very first time on Thursday afternoon. After winning a sectional championship in 2011, the Mavericks took a step back last year with a young team that won just 9 matches but continued to improve as the season progressed.
