WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Purdue senior tight end Gabe Holmes was named to the Mackey Award watch list on Tuesday.
The John Mackey Award is presented annually to the most outstanding collegiate tight end in the nation.
Holmes is coming off a 2012 season that saw him finish with a career-high 25 receptions for 158 yards and two touchdowns. In 35 career games, Holmes has 37 receptions for 305 yards and three scores.
Former Purdue tight end Tim Stratton was inaugural Mackey Award winner in 2000 when he caught 58 passes for 605 yards and two touchdowns. Current Miami Dolphin Dustin Keller was a semifinalist for the award at Purdue in 2007.
