WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Former Central Catholic Knight and current Purdue wide receiver Danny Anthrop went down with an injury to his left knee during the scrimmage on Saturday.
On a play near the goal line, Anthrop suffered the injury. Trainers helped him off the field. He was not able to put any pressure on his left leg.
Anthrop was then taken from the field on a cart and didn't return to the field.
"It was his knee," said Hazell. "I feel horrible for him. The kid has worked so hard and put himself in a position to be one of our guys. Your heart sinks when a guy goes down like that. So, we will find out here in the next 24 hours had bad it is."
On Sunday, Hazell announced that he believes Anthrop has torn MCL. Hazell believes Anthrop will miss 6-8 weeks. Anthrop will be reevaluated on Monday to get complete confirmation on extent of injury.
In three days, the wide receiving group suffered two significant injuries. Wide Receiver Dan Monteroso sustained a broken collarbone. Head Coach Darrell Hazell said Monteroso underwent surgery Saturday morning and is expected to miss six weeks.
