INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - An IMPD officer was slightly injured early Thursday when his patrol car crashed with a stolen vehicle on the city's west side.
Police say they were already in the area of West Washington Street and Holt Road investigating a report of a stolen motorcycle and shots fired that occurred around 2 a.m.
Police were pursuing one suspect near West Washington and South Taft Avenue around 3:15 a.m.
Investigators say a man on another stolen Harley Davidson ditched the motorcycle, jumped into an empty car idling in front of a west side home, drove a short distance and collided with an IMPD officer at West Washington Street and Wichser Avenue. The stolen car did not have its headlights on when the two vehicles crashed.
The IMPD officer was slightly injured and was taken to IU Methodist Hospital for treatment. The suspect police were pursuing got away.
The suspect was treated at the scene and was taken to jail, charged with two counts of auto theft, criminal recklessness and possession of a handgun without a permit.
