LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - One woman is dead following a motorcycle crash at the intersection of Creasy Lane and State Road 38 in Lafayette.
The wreck happened just before 9 p.m. Wednesday. The motorcycle was driven by Dennis Griede of Demotte. His wife Sherri Griede was a passenger on the bike. Both Dennis and Sherri were ejected as a result of the accident.
According to the Lafayette Police Department, the motorcycle was traveling south in the center lane on Creasy Lane and wiped out after a truck attempted to turn left from the opposite direction.
Officer Mark Roberts said the driver of a pickup truck pulled out in front of the motorcycle thinking the rider was turning left. The pickup truck driver, 18-year-old Abigail Wilson of Crawfordsville, was not injured.
Roberts said both riders were taken to Franciscan Saint Elizabeth East Hospital.
Lafayette Police Traffic Technician Matt Devine confirmed that Sherri Griede died as a result of her injuries from the crash. Officers believe neither person on the bike was wearing a helmet.
Investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
