LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Lafayette Police Department received and responded to a 911 call reporting a vehicle crash in Lafayette on Sunday morning.
The call came in around 5:34 a.m. at Valley St. and Mary Hill Rd. Emergency services personnel arrived and began treating the injured parties.
Further investigation revealed that a Northbound 2001 Silver Ford Mustang had traveled off Valley St. to the right, striking a tree.
Passenger Roxie Raejean Johnson, 26, of Lafayette was transported to St. Elizabeth East Hospital Emergency Room. Johnson was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Another passenger Kastin Elliott Slaybaugh, 28, of Lafayette was also taken to St. Elizabeth East Hospital. Slaybaugh was treated and released for facial abrasions and complaint of pain.
The driver Jerry A. Ford, 28, of Lafayette was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital East. Ford was treated and released for complaint of pain.
Ford was taken into custody and transported to the Tippecanoe Co. Jail. He faces two felony charges including: operating with a controlled substance (methamphetamine) resulting in death and operating while suspended causing death.
Toxicology results are pending for Johnson and Slaybaugh, which is a standard procedure in a traffic fatality investigations.
Excessive speed and drug use are factors believed to be involved in the cause of this crash.
The cause of death for Johnson is pending with the Office of the Tippecanoe County Coroner.
