WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The masses have spoken. In honor of May being National Hamburger Month, News 18 asked viewers to vote online for the best hamburger in town.
The winner is Triple XXX in West Lafayette.
Co-owner Greg Ehresman said he is thankful for the local recognition.
"What matters most to us is how we are thought of locally because that is what got us to where we are in a position so we can be recognized nationally," Ehresman said.
One of those national recognitions was an appearance on the Food Network show Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives.
Viewers may think Triple XXX has the best burgers, but which Triple XXX burger is the best?
"The Boilermaker Pete is fantastic," Ehresman said. "It's a third of a pound [of ground sirloin], grilled onions, real American cheese. Bernie Flowers didn't like cheese on it so his is just a good burger with a slice of onion on it."
The list goes on. It includes the restaurant's most popular burger, the Purvis Burger. It comes with peanut butter on it.
Ehresman said tradition is what keeps customers craving the burgers.
"The burgers and the meat we use for them have been the exact same since 1932," Ehresman said. "It's been ground sirloin, ground right here, fresh every day."
Ehresman said he does like to make some changes to the menu. He said customers should keep their eyes on some changes coming soon.
