WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - West Lafayette residents will start paying more for trash collection soon.
At Tuesday morning's West Lafayette Board of Works meeting, council president Ann Hunt announced a new trash ordinance will be read at Monday's city council meeting.
She says right now the price is $9. It has not changed in 20 years.
She says the price of gas gives a good idea of when trash fees need to go up.
"Gas prices (used to be) $1.07 to $1.25 a gallon," Hunt said. "Now, when I got gas last week it was $3.86. A bunch of the trash cost is in fuel."
Hunt says it is not known when the new trash fee will begin, or what it will be.
She says it could possibly go up to $16.
A new storm water fee will also be given to West Lafayette residents.
The $8 fee will begin in January 2014.

The drop in temperatures brings the potential for health dangers, such as hypothermia and frost bite. The bitter temperatures can pose a threat for children, adults and pets.
As it stands Wednesday, there will be no FEMA aid for tornado survivors in Howard County.
