TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - The Tippecanoe School Corporation (TSC) spends almost $300,000 to expand its bus parking, but will save almost $30,000 in the process.
The TSC school board approved the purchase of a vacant lot on the 100 block of State Road 25, next to its current service center Wednesday.
As News 18 reported in May, the original price tag for the 1.8 acre site was $310,000. But after an appraisal and negotiations, the cost was lowered to $282,000.
Tippecanoe School Corporation Chief Financial Officer Kim Fox said with more than 140 buses and 115 drivers working for the school corporation, room for bus parking was becoming an issue, especially during the summer.
"There is not an area here that is not consumed by a school bus. We had the opportunity to purchase the carnation property very close to our transportation building and felt that would be a great way to expand our parking area," Fox.
The board also passed the 2014 budget Wednesday. The $117 million figure is about the same as 2013.
The district also announced it was named a Miracle Corporation by Riley Hospital for Children. TSC raised more than $22,000 during the last school year.
