TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - A man is sent to the hospital after a moped and pickup truck sideswipe each other in Tippecanoe County.
It happened around 10 p.m. Wednesday on N. 9th Street, about half a mile south of the Davis Ferry Bridge.
Deputies said the driver of the truck was heading north and tried passing another vehicle but didn't see an oncoming moped. Both the driver of the truck and the driver of the moped tried to avoid a collision but ended up sideswiping each other.
The 27-year-old driver of the moped suffered serious life-threatening injuries. He was first taken to IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette and later transferred to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. The 24-year-old driver of the truck was not hurt.
No names have been released.
"This was a serious crash and I don't know if there was much more that they could have done to try and avoid it. It was a sideswipe, not a head-on but for a sideswipe it was pretty serious," said Jodi Rohler.
North 9th Street was closed for about six hours, reopening to traffic around 4 a.m. Thursday.
