BENTON COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - Benton County residents reported more problems with wells Tuesday and blame the irrigation of a nearby farmer.
Jenna Crumbaugh shared Report!t video Tuesday evening of a farmer irrigating his fields on County Road 600 East, just north of Templeton, less than a mile from where a number of wells have gone dry.
It's a story WLFI has been covering since Sunday night.
The farmer told WLFI Tuesday he's not sure he's responsible for the wells going dry. He declined to be interviewed on camera but says he spoke with the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Tuesday morning and wasn't told he couldn't irrigate.
He says with the Otterbein water tower empty for repainting, it's possible last Tuesday's house fire is to blame or perhaps a fertilizer company in town.
However the Oxford fire chief says firefighters have drawn water from Templeton before and never had a problem.
The farmer says the DNR will visit him Wednesday afternoon.
WLFI will continue to follow this story.
