BATTLE GROUND, Ind. (WLFI) - Talking to young children about September 11 can be difficult, but teachers at Battle Ground Elementary are using a children's book to help explain the events of that day.
Principal John Pearl and Counselor Jeannine Jervis visited several classrooms and shared a book titled: "September 12th: We Knew Everything Would Be Alright."
The book was written by Missouri first graders. It illustrates the kindness and courage on and after 9/11. Third grade teacher Shirley Frist likes to talk about the heroism showed on that day.
"The people that were volunteering and going up those ladders or going up those stairs to save other people. The kids can see that," said Frist.
Pearl said the school also ties things into what happens around Battle Ground, including talking about the town's volunteer fire department.
Inventions were built by Purdue mechanical engineering students for a final class project.
U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly has traveled around the state throughout the week talking with workers at automotive plants.
