TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - Getting the entire family together for dinner can sometimes be a challenge, but September 23 is a good night to make it a priority.
That's because September 23 is National "Eat With Your Family Night." The tradition was started by CASA back in 2001.
CASA researchers said having dinner together is a good way of opening up communication between parents and kids.
Research also shows that it's an effective way of reducing substance abuse among children and teens.
Indiana Youth Institute President Bill Stanczykiewitz said it's not about the food, it's about time spent together.
"Well, everybody has to eat, and since everybody has to eat, what a great opportunity for us to do something together as families," said Stanczykiewitz. "There's nothing magic about the meal, it truly is the time that we're spending together."
