LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The side of a Lafayette apartment building now has a gaping hole after a woman drove her SUV through it.
It happened just after 1:15 Wednesday afternoon.
According to Lafayette Police, the driver was at Malden Road and Edward Way when she mistakenly pressed the gas instead of the brake.
Officer Will Carpenter says there was structural damage to the building and the people who live there will have to find somewhere else to stay for at least the rest of the day.
"The engineer's office is here evaluating that," said Carpenter.
"They are currently waiting on a contractor to shore up the hole in the side of the building to make it safe so they can get some electrical turned off, then have that vehicle removed."
There were two children in the SUV. Both were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
As Purdue classes end for the semester, campus bar representatives and local law enforcement met to discuss what they noticed during the semester.
