DAYTON, Ind. (WLFI) - Dispatchers with the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office said part of State Road 38 was closed Friday morning.
Multiple crews responded to a house fire in Dayton. Early reports indicated the home is near Interstate 65 as well as a gas station.
UPDATE: 2:57 A.M. 12/28/12:
One man is dead after an overnight house fire in Dayton. (4:30 p.m. update: The man has been identified as 52-year-old Jimmy B. Edwards, Jr.)
It happened on State Road 38. Crews found the Edwards in the home, but it's unclear if he died before the fire began or as a result of the incident.
State Road 38 was immediately shut down when crews arrived on the scene.
Sheffield and Dayton firefighters responded to the fire. They were assisted by Lafayette firefighters and police as well as Dayton police and the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office.
A worker at a nearby BP gas station originally reported the fire as it was within 200 feet of the station.
The fire was out in about 15 minutes, but crews spent another two hours extinguishing various hot spots.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
