WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - WLFI has new information about a low-flying military plane which was in the sky above Greater Lafayette Thursday.
The C-17 aircraft is part of the 512th Airlift Wing, from the Dover Air Force Base in Delaware.
We spoke with Major Paul Fisher, who was one of three Air Force reservists on board, along with Capt. Jon Jensen and Lt. Wes Britt. Fisher says all are graduates of Purdue's School of Aviation Technology.
Fisher says they were already in the area and thought it would be fun to use the Purdue runway for their routine training exercises.

A large, low-flying military plane caught the eye of many in the Greater Lafayette area Thursday afternoon. Police say it was practicing flying grids and approaches near the Purdue Airport.
According to WLFI viewers who utilized Report!t, it could be seen between noon and 1 p.m. as far away as Otterbein, Ind.
The Purdue Police Department says it spoke with officials at the Purdue University Airport tower, who said the military plane was practicing flight patterns, along with its approach, near the Purdue Airport.
At the time, Purdue News Service spokesman Jim Bush said the plane was based out of Grissom Air Reserve Base in Miami County ( As stated above, we later discovered the plane was not based out of Grissom).

The plane passed right over the WLFI studios in West Lafayette. Our crew says the plane was flying unusually low.
