LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - A candidate who ran against Todd Rokita in the 2012 election announces she's running again next year.
Lafayette native Tara Nelson announced her campaign for Indiana's 4th District seat in the House over the weekend.
You may remember, Nelson won the Democratic primary in 2012, but lost to Rokita by nearly 30 points.
Nelson said she was planning on running anyway and decided because of recent appearances in the national news by Rokita, to announce it sooner rather than later.
"Our Congressman has made national news by demeaning a CNN anchorwoman and also saying that the Affordable Care Act is the most insidious law that man has created," Nelson said. "The constituents deserve better representation in Washington."
Nelson said she has a better chance this time because of greater national and financial support at this point in her campaign.
Pride Lafayette Inc. is commending the mayors of Lafayette and West Lafayette for their stance against a proposed constitutional ban of same-sex marriage, but other major community entities have yet to take a stand for or against it.
Residents who want to have their voice heard through the written word during controversial zoning requests will have to keep it short, sweet and get it in under deadline.
