LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Area planners recommended approval of some zoning changes to allow potential development on the south side of Lafayette Wednesday night.
The Area Plan Commission voted unanimously to recommend that a 20 acre tract of land near Maple Point Drive and Sagamore Parkway be rezoned from industrial to general business. It's land that is currently vacant across the parkway from the Tippecanoe Mall.
Area Plan Commission Executive Director Sallie Fahey says the zoning of the surrounding area is currently in flux because of future development.
"That's probably where it's headed for the future so we think it's a good idea . The landowner is ready to subdivide, extend the streets and provide the lots for interested buyers," says Fahey.
The zoning request now heads to Lafayette city council for its approval.
