LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Lafayette police are searching for a man who left the scene of a break-in after the homeowner fired his gun.
It happened around 3:30 Tuesday morning in the 2200 block of North 21st Street. Sergeant Bob Baumgartner said three adults, including a husband, his wife, a female house guest, and five children were inside the home.
He said a man the guest knew broke in. Baumgartner said the man was pushed out of the house, but when he tried to get back in the homeowner fired a shot into the ground.
"When he saw the guy coming back he told him if he came back into the house he was going to shoot him," Baumgartner said. "The guy continued to approach, and the man that lives there did fire one shot. As soon as he did that the suspect, who had kicked in the door, ran to his vehicle and fled the scene."
Baumgartner said police know the suspect's name, and an arrest warrant will most likely be issued.
When National Guardsmen and Reservists are called to duty it means they have to miss work. One group is helping employers deal with their absence.
