TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - A Lafayette man is airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, after he crashed his moped on 43, near Woods Edge Court, early Sunday morning.
Tippecanoe County Deputy Steven Stonerock said the call came in around 4:00 Sunday morning. Stonerock said when he arrived, 33-year-old Mark Lucas of Lafayette was lying face down, unconscious.
Stonerock said he believes Lucas was riding on the right hand side of the road, close to the railing. He said he believes Lucas hit the storm grate, and flew off of his moped into the railing.
According to Stonerock, Lucas suffered severe leg, side, and head injuries. He was transported to IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette, and then air lifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
His condition is unknown at this time. Stonerock said they do not believe alcohol or speed was a factor, but the accident remains under investigation.
