CASS COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - Wednesday morning at approximately 9:37 a.m. officers from the Indiana State Police and the Cass County Sheriff’s Department responded to a single vehicle crash on Cass County Road 950 East near Church Road, in which a Logansport woman died.
The preliminary crash investigation by Trooper Mike Meiser revealed that Mara Petty, 61, of Logansport, was driving a 2003 Pontiac southbound on County Road 950 East south of Church Road in New Waverly. For an unknown reason, Petty drove over a set of railroad tracks and into a ditch on the west side of County Road 950 East. The Pontiac rolled onto its top after traveling into the ditch.
Petty was pronounced dead at the scene by Cass County Coroner Randy Rozzi. It is believed she had a medical episode prior to the crash. She was wearing a seat belt.
This crash is still under investigation, but at this time neither the use of alcohol nor narcotics is suspected as having contributed to this crash.
