LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - A a contraption made of three separate bundles strapped to thefront of a truck parked on Main Street in front of the TippecanoeCounty Courthouse Thursday prompted calls topolice.
But when they got there, what police discovered was not a bombbut a homemade gas-saving device.
Lafayette Police Officer Will Carpenter said, "We get there, andof course it's six Mason jars strapped to the front of the truckwith tubes and wires coming out of it."
Carpenter said police quickly determined there was nothreat.
"It was part of the fuel system," said Carpenter. "Anotherofficer arrived and said that, yeah, he was pretty sure that it waspart of the fuel system. As a precaution, we called theTippecanoe County Bomb Squad. A couple members showed up and theyconfirmed that it was part of the fuel system, that it was ahomemade hydrogen generator."
Carpenter made contact with the truck's owner, and learned itwas one of three vehicles the man is using the system on.
"He's adamant that it works, and has saved him five miles agallon," Carpenter said.
Indiana Governor Mike Pence (R) proposed a pre-K voucher program as part of his 2014 agenda. The program would give underprivileged children access to pre-K programs.
Several generations gathered Saturday to remember a day that will live in infamy. The day marked 72 years since the attack on Pearl Harbor.
