TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - Board members of the Tippecanoe School Corporation (TSC) learned the IREAD-3 results in year two for the reading assessment test.
The passing rate for third graders was 88.5 percent this year, just 0.4 below last year's rate.
TSC Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education Christy Fraley says if one includes exemptions for students with special needs or who are ESL, 97 percent of third graders can move to fourth grade without needing to retake the test.
"We're very excited for our students. We're really proud of all our students' parents and teachers. They did an excellent job. It's the second year in a row where we've had the same amount pass," Fraley says.
Second grader Erik Boener was recognized for being awarded the best elementary school artist in the state for the picture he drew after learning about the artist Diego Rivera. His artwork hung outside the governor's office for a month and he also won some art supplies.
