LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - A Lafayette Marine who was severely injured in Afghanistan is on his way home.
Corporal Matt Bowman was separated from the service Friday afternoon at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC.
Bowman's wife, Paige, said Pate saved Bowman's life when he was injured last year. Bowman lost both legs and several fingers when a roadside bomb exploded while he was on patrol in Afghanistan.
Bowman is a graduate of McCutcheon High School. He plans to attend Purdue University and hopes to become a high school wrestling coach.
A homecoming celebration is scheduled for Monday at 2:00 in Woodfield Village, off South 18th Street in Lafayette.
The public is invited to attend.
A shooting on Lafayette's south side is under investigation.
It's been nearly a month since a tornado damaged Southwestern Middle School and Mintonye Elementary School, giving faculty the task of helping students transition to their new surroundings.
Donations are being accepted to help around 300 seniors receive a holiday gift.
