KISSIMMEE, Fla. (WLFI) - A Clinton County couple was arrested and is behind bars in Florida on charges of child neglect.
Twenty-year-old Stacia Rogers, and Rogers' boyfriend, 28-year-old Jerry Montalvo, both of Frankfort, were arrested in Kissimmee, Fla., Monday morning on child neglect charges after a 2-year-old girl in their care was found sleeping alone outside a shopping mall overnight.
The call came in to the Kissimmee Police Department at about 2:45 a.m. Monday.
"When they arrived they found a 2-year-old asleep with no adult supervision," Kissimmee police spokeswoman Stacie Miller said.
Police said the 2-year-old girl who belongs to the Frankfort couple was found asleep outside the Ross store at the Osceola Square Mall.
"The officer who arrived at the scene attempted to wake the child and she didn't wake up. So he scooped her in his arms and she lifted her head, looked him right in the eye and fell back to sleep again," Miller said.
Both Rogers and Montalvo were arrested on charges of child neglect and taken to the Kissimmee Police Department. Authorities said Montalvo appeared to be disoriented and under the influence of drugs.
For now, the toddler is being looked after by the Department of Children and Families services in Florida.
Stacia Rogers is currently in the Osceola County Jail on a $15,000 bond.
Jerry Montalvo is being held on $1,000 bond.
