LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The demolition of another Lafayette property is now delayed.
The abandoned Midwest Rental Property on Fifth Street is still standing after excavators found asbestos in the building.
Lafayette Economic Development Director Dennis Carson says they are working to remove it before the building is demolished.
He says visible demolition will start soon.
"There was some asbestos in the building and some tile and some pipe wrap," Carson said. "That had to be dealt with first. So, we had to figure out exactly how much was in there and how it needed to be disposed of. They're doing that now and, hopefully, next week you'll see more visible action on the demolition."
The site is set to be owner-occupied townhomes which are designed to continue with the historic feel of the neighborhood.
