LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Dr. Wael Harb is the Medical Director of Cancer Services and the Director of Clinical Research for IU Health Arnett in Lafayette. He made a visit to News 18 Daybreak to discuss clinical trials as an option for breast cancer patients.
Dr. Harb said clinical trials are not what they used to be. Decades ago, participating in a clinical trial was perhaps a last resort for cancer treatment. Today, he said clinical trials are seeing more success. It's also an important way to investigate new drugs and it gives patients more options.
Dr. Harb said currently, hundreds of cancer drugs are being developed and they need to be further investigated by way of clinical trials. Dr. Harb said the National Cancer Institute can provide a wealth of information on current clinical trials. If you're interested in learning more, step one is to discuss your options with your doctor.
