DELPHI, In. (WLFI) - A pedestrian bridge at the Wabash Erie Canal Park in Delphi is now in place. Crews spent the day moving the 42 ton bridge.
A crane was used to pick the bridge up and set it on a barge which carried it across the canal. Community members sat along the banks and took pictures while workers moved the structure inch by inch.
Canal President Dan McCain said he is thrilled to have the bridge set, but there is still work to do.
"As we get farther into the winter, we want to have yet a decking day. It may or may not allow us to do that with the weather. We will finish it in the spring, at least." McCain
McCain said it should be open to the public in spring 2014. The bridge is a connection between two trails that had been separated by the canal.
