LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Students and teachers at Southwestern Middle School dedicated a bridge this week to honor a teacher who passed away last year.
Tammie Beeker, a sixth grade teacher, died suddenly last August because of a heart attack.
The bridge was built in the back of the school near where Beeker liked to park.
Special education teacher Kelly Peckinpaugh says during construction of the bridge, everything that happened reminded them of Beeker.
"We would joke as we were building the bridge of comments she would make," Peckinpaugh said. "As things went wrong and we would dig our shovels in and we would hit rocks, we joked saying Tammie would say, 'Throw in the towel, let's move on.'"
Beeker's children, Jack, Julia and Jade and her husband John all attended the service.
Her husband is also the principal of McCutcheon High School.
A Purdue football player was arrested for alcohol-related offenses over the weekend.
As temperatures drop, the use of homeless shelters go up.
