BENTON COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - The Benton County school board president spoke Wednesday for the first time after a controversial decision to change the contract for current Superintendent Destin Haas is made public.
But he's not saying much.
Board President Mike Souligne told News 18 the public can comment at the hearing scheduled for Oct. 8 at 1 p.m.
As News 18 has already reported, the board will then vote on Oct. 15 to end the contract next June, with a $25,000 payout if he leaves before Oct. 31.
Souligne would not comment on what is motivating the change in contract.
"No. It's an employment issue. It's confidential. It is an agreement between both parties and we're not going to discuss the issues that brought us to that agreement," said Souligne.
Souligne also said he's aware of the petition online which currently has more than 800 signatures but declined to comment further.
