WAVELAND, Ind. (WISH/WLFI) - Three people are dead following a late morning crash involving an 18-wheeler near Waveland in Montgomery County.
Firefighters told WLFI's sister station WISH-TV two men and a woman were killed in the crash. Emergency crews at the scene tell us that two of the dead are brother and sister who were on their way to an immediate family member's funeral.
Indiana State Police report the crash along State Road 47 and Montgomery County Road 600 West is being investigated by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department.
The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said a semi driven by 38-year-old Shane J. Jones of Waveland was travelling northbound on State Road 47. A car driven by 25-year-old Anthony Suggs of Ruskin, Florida, was headed southbound. His passengers were 21-year-old Logan R. Mill of Suwanee, Georgia, and 25-year-old Amanda S. Mills of Buford, Georgia. Suggs lost control of his car causing it to spin and enter the opposite land of traffic. The semi hit the car and both left the roadway. Suggs, Logan Mills and Amanda Mills were all pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner. The roadway was snow-covered at the time of the crash.
INDOT reports the roads in the area are difficult to traverse.
