HIGHLAND, Ind. (AP) — Indiana conservation officers say a northwestern Indiana man has died after the off-road vehicle he was driving overturned.
They say 50-year-old Richard Haschke of Highland was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash from multiple head injuries. The crash occurred about 3:20 a.m. Sunday in downtown Highland, about seven miles southwest of Gary.
Officers say two other men were injured: 31-year-old Jeffery Cifaldi of LaPorte was treated for a broken arm at a hospital and 42-year-old Bryan Minnich of Highland was treated and released at the scene.
Officers say alcohol is believed to have been a contributing factor in the cause of the crash. They say safety belts weren't worn by any of the occupants of the ATV.
