KOKOMO, Ind. (AP) — A central Indiana mayor is leading a dozen-person group on a trip to his community's new sister city in China.
The group with Kokomo Mayor Greg Goodnight is scheduled to leave Friday for the city of Dongyang, which is near Shanghai. The Kokomo Tribune reports two delegations from Dongyang have visited Kokomo since the sister city agreement was signed in January.
The Kokomo group will include the city's development director, local business officials and faculty members from Indiana University-Kokomo. Also going along is Kokomo High School student Craig Simon, who played pingpong against the Chinese visitors earlier this year.
Goodnight says the goal of the six-day trip is to strengthen ties between the cities.
The Greater Kokomo Economic Development Alliance is a primary sponsor of the trip.
