According to court documents, 30-year-old Cassie Bell struck her boyfriend's 3-year-old son in the chest, causing him to fall and hit his head after he refused to go to bed.
A Lafayette detective observed bruises on the child's face, a cut near the hairline on the back of his head, a cut on his nose, bruises appearing to be belt marks across his chest and other bruises on his body.
Prosecutors say an MRI revealed the child to have a subdural hematoma.
Bell is being held on a $5,000 bond.
She is being charged with battery on a child and neglect of a dependent.
