MONTGOMERY, Ind. (WANE) - An Indiana State Trooper was injured during a shootout with an armed robbery suspect Monday afternoon.
The suspect, James D. Jones, 60, Shoals, was shot and killed during an exchange of gunfire.
According to a state police release, around 1:35 p.m., Trooper Jarrod Lents responded to a disturbance at the Black Oak Armaments Gun Shop in Montgomery, about 100 miles southwest of Indianapolis.
Investigators said an armed robbery was in progress and gunfire was exchanged between Lents and Jones.
Lents was hit several times, according to a police statement. He was airlifted to a hospital in Evansville with non-life threatening injuries. State police officials said Lents was released from the hospital and is under care by his family.
The incident remains under investigation.
A shooting on Lafayette's south side is under investigation.
