LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The Lafayette Police Department Shooting Review Board will convene Tuesday to review a police chase and shooting last Friday.
The members of the board are Deputy Chief of Police David Payne, Captain of Patrol Division Chris Downard, Captain of Investigation Division Kurt Wolf, Lt. Perry Amos (commanding officer of the member who discharged her weapon), Officer Brandon Withers and Officer Casey Frazier (the last two being members of the same rank as the member who discharged her weapon).

According to Deputy Chief Payne, by LPD policy when an incident involves an officer discharging their firearm, two investigations are initiated. The primary investigation is a criminal investigation into the incident to determine if criminal laws were violated by any person involved in the incident.
The second and subordinate investigation is conducted by Internal Affairs to examine the actions of the officers involved in the incident and to determine if departmental policy and training guidelines were followed, as well as the overall management and outcome of the incident.
Upon conclusion of these two investigations a Shooting Review Board will convene to review both investigations. The mission of the Shooting Review Board is to develop findings and make recommendations to the Chief of Police as to whether or not the shooting is within policy or accidental and if there should be any disciplinary considerations.
The progress of the two investigations will dictate when the Shooting Review Board will convene Tuesday.
