WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - An assistant manager at a West Lafayette Walmart has been caught stealing thousands from her store, according to police.
40-year-old Bobbie Amick has been charged with theft for stealing $15,000 from the Walmart located at 2801 Northwestern Avenue.
West Lafayette police say the thefts of cash happened over the course of a year.
Amick's job was to collect the money from cash registers and put the cash in the store's safe.
Police said Amick would steal different amounts of cash while placing the registers' money in the safe.
Lt. Troy Harris says it's not uncommon for employees to steal from the company for which they work.
But, Lt. Harris says this case is a bit different.
"Employee theft is not unusual," Lt. Harris said. "However, to this magnitude and over the course of such a lengthy period of time, that is a bit unusual."
Harris says Walmart's accounting department noticed money was consistently missing during Amick's shift.
Amick will have her initial hearing on Jan. 14.
