TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - Shots were fired and cars vandalized at a West Lafayette apartment complex last week, leading to criminal charges against one of the community's residents.
Prosecutors say 21-year-old Tyler Davis faces a felony charge of obliterating identification marks on a handgun and misdemeanor charges of carrying a handgun without a license or permit and criminal mischief.
The charges stem from an incident last week at Willowbrook Apartments.
Prosecutors say Tippecanoe County Sheriff's deputies were called to investigate vehicles being vandalized.
One of the residents told investigators Davis may have been responsible.
While deputies were still on the scene, shots were fired.
Prosecutors say Davis came out of one of the apartment buildings carrying a handgun and was detained.
Later, prosecutors say Davis admitted to firing the shots outside his apartment and breaking into several cars after thinking about rent being due.
