PERU, Ind. (AP) - Officers say the father and grandmother of a 2-year-old girl face battery and child neglect charges for duct-taping the child's mouth and drenching her with cold water during a camping trip.
Conservation officers were called to Mississinewa Reservoir's campground after witnesses reported 31-year-old Craig Minarik and 53-year-old Linda Black were mistreating the girl. The Peru residents allegedly duct-taped the child's mouth shut as punishment and then tore the tape off, causing the child to scream.
Police reports say Minarik and Black also poured cold water from a camp spigot over the child's head and that Minarik shoved his daughter backward into a tent.
The Kokomo Tribune reports Minarik and Black were arrested Saturday on felony charges of battery and child neglect. They remain jailed at the Miami County jail.
