INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - An Indianapolis man was arrested Tuesday after he threw a cat at his roommate during a fight.
Police were called to the 1100 block of North Rural Street on a report of a disturbance or a fight at the residence just after midnight.
A man told police he was assaulted by his roommate, John Welsh, 42, and had to defend himself. He said he was worried about Welsh's safety because he was bleeding from the head.
Welsh refused to open the door and ordered the officers away from the home.
The victim told police he was sitting in the living room when Welsh came up to him, trying to pick a fight.
Welsh threw a cat on him, which landed on the victim's arm and scratched him. Welsh then started punching him in the left thigh anywhere from five to 10 times, the victim told police.
The victim said he stood up, hit Welsh, held him down and told him to stop hitting him. The victim then went outside and called police.
Police say Welsh was intoxicated and said that they just like to beat each other up.
He was checked out by medics on the scene, was arrested on a preliminary charge of battery with injury and was taken to the Marion County Jail.
